Thank you for considering AMaG Coaching as you embark on your multi-sport journey. It is truly a privilege to be able to work with someone as they undertake a sporting challenge and equally fulfilling for us helping you achieve your goals and navigate any obstacles along the way. Whether you are a novice, intermediate or veteran multi-sport athlete our personalized programs are flexible and tailored to your specific life situation and multi-sport goals.

Given the unique needs and backgrounds of each individual athlete, when it comes to structuring a periodized annual training plan we are mindful of the fact that no athlete’s situation is the same. All of our plans begin with a coach/athlete assessment which helps us better gauge your current level of fitness and tailor a plan according to your specific goals and lifestyle.

The plans themselves are delivered either weekly or monthly depending on the athlete’s preference and budget. Communication between coach and athlete is done via email, text and Skye.

Empower and challenge yourself!

All training plans include unlimited emails and workout modifications that may arise due to life situations, such as work related travel and/or unplanned family events/commitments. We maintain an “open door” policy with respect to communications – as this feedback is key to your success and progression as an athlete.

What Does a Typical Year of Training Look Like?

The year is typically broken down into 3-4 training phases or blocks usually commencing close to a year out from your planned event. Bearing in mind again that different levels of athletes may have different requirements and/or unique needs.

1.MAINTENANCE PHASE

The Maintenance Phase is where the novice athlete works on developing a consistent workout routine, becomes familiar with the different disciplines (swim/bike/run) and any limiters and/or technical issues can be identified. Coach/Athlete communication in this phase is an integral part.

For the athlete that has done a number of multiple sport events this is a time to maintain contact with each discipline, think about areas of improvement and generally keep the body and mind connected and ready for the next phase.

2. BUILD PHASE

The Build Phase typically lasts 3-4 months and is used to prepare the athlete for the specifics of the performance phase and build a regular and consistent training routine, work on any technical issues and create a first baseline for training intensities. Distances and duration for each discipline are slowly increased in this phase and individual nutritional and hydration requirements identified.

3. PERFORMANCE PHASE

The Performance Phase phase is where a good portion of the fine tuning and race specif work come into play. Dialing into a nutrition plan for long course events and additional intensity/sharpening happen here. The tail end of this phase includes the all important taper – where the athlete gradually scales back on training in preparation for the event!
